The Future of Technology Here in Fountain City

October 31, 2005, Fountain City Focus

Mayor Ragsdale presented Fountainhead College of Technology a proclamation declaring October 25th as "Knox County IACT Cybersecurity Awareness Day," so it was only appropriate that the college host CyberNight 2005 on that day.

The open house showcased the growing career possibilities in technology. It was a great way to find out about spring registration, Cyber Security Awareness Month and the college's Fast Track Associate and Bachelor Degrees in everything from network security and forensics to computer programming to electronics technology. Roach of 94.3 the X was also on hand for a live remote and cool prize giveaways, and the school offered light finger foods and sweets for those who stopped in on their way home from work or classes.

A Cybersecurity Awareness Seminar hosted David Land and Mel Pierce.

David Land, Cyber CI Officer with ORNL Counterintelligence spoke about the dangers of leaving your computer systems unprotected and how terrorists go about getting information for targets and what you can do to prevent it.

Mel Pierce with Knoxville Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force spoke about ways to keep our children safe from internet predators. ICAC was also presented with the first Annual IACT Cyberhero Award - an award of excellence in cybersecurity.
