NSA's INFOSEC Assessment and Evaluation Methodology training and certification courses hosted by IACT a complete success

September 29, 2005

There's only ONE WAY to get NSA IAM/IEM certified. And that's by attending the NSA sponsored IAM/IEM training....

The INFOSEC Assessment Methodology (IAM) and INFOSEC Evaluation Methodology (IEM) sponsored by IACT, Atlanta HTCIA, ISSA International and NaSPA was a great success. Professionals from all sectors attended, including attendees from Purdue University, Miltec Systems and Access Data. Security Horizon's Dr. Greg Miles conducted the training. Security Horizon, Inc. is a veteran owned small business founded in 2000 by information security professionals with extensive backgrounds in both commercial and Federal/DoD environments. The company has an exclusive agreement with the NSA to conduct this training in the private sector.

The IAM training is a detailed and systematic way of examining cyber vulnerabilities and was developed by experienced NSA and Commercial INFOSEC assessors. NSA is providing the IAM to assist both INFOSEC assessment suppliers and consumers requiring assessments. This market was originally created by the PDD-63 (now HSPD-7) requirement for vulnerability assessments of automated information systems that support the U.S. infrastructure. In addition to assisting the governmental and private sectors, and important result of supplying baseline standards for INFOSEC assessments is fostering a commitment to improve organizations' security posture. This two-day, group participation course included an exam for the IAM certificate.

The IEM training is a hands-on methodology for conducting evaluations of customer networks utilizing common technical evaluation tools. Students learned an easily repeatable methodology that provided a roadmap for addressing security concerns and increasing security posture. This course was a follow on course to the IAM and will resulted in an NSA certificate for all attendees.

"We had a wonderful time hosting this event. It was exciting to have cross-sector professionals in one classroom. Dr. Miles was great to work with, and we hope to hold this training again next year."
