IACT Member to Speak at the 4th Annual Southeast Cybercrime Summit

January 6 , 2006

IACT Program Coordinator, Tammy Alexander will be presenting a workshop on "Securing Your Domain Name" at this years Southeast Cybercrime Summit. The Summit will be held at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA from February 27 - March 3, 2006.

The rise in domain name commerce has resulted in an abundance of frauds targeted towards acquiring domain names from legitimate owners. Some of these methods are legal, others are not. Ms. Alexander's presentation is based on a research paper for a master's level network security course and is ideal for business owners, network administrators, web site developers, and anyone who is tasked with domain name management, or interested in the subject of domain name fraud.

The presentation is scheduled for Monday, February 27th at 1pm and Wednesday March 1st at 10am and will provide an overview of how domain names and Registrars work, will address the various issues facing domain name owners and outline ways they can protect their domain names from being transferred without their knowledge. This is a non-technical presentation intended for the general public.

The Southeast Cybercrime Summit includes a choice of more than 50 speakers with over 10 labs a day, and topics that will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn from some of the nation's most talented professionals. Sessions provide in-depth coverage of the hot topics and other issues facing today's computer forensic professionals.

This years keynote speaker is internationally renouned security expert Bruce Schneier, well-known for his influential newsletter, Crypto-Gram, read by over 120,000 readers.

The highlight of the conference is a mock trial that pits two nationally recognized computer forensic professionals against each other with experienced lawyers from Atlanta, GA.
