PROCLAMATION

By Executive Order of the Honorable Michael R. Ragsdale, Knox County Executive it is hereby proclaimed:

Knox County IACT Cybersecurity Awareness Day

Whereas, Fountainhead College of Technology, formerly Tennessee Institute of Electronics, was founded in 1947; and

Whereas, Fountainhead College of Technology is committed to using it resources to significantly contribute to efforts to secure the nation's critical infrastructure; and

Whereas, in 1999 the college began offering an associate's degree in Information Technology with curriculum developed to include information security training; and

Whereas, in 2002 the college began development of a baccalaureate degree in Network Security and Forensics; and

Whereas, in 2003 Fountainhead College of Technology became the first college in the southeast to offer a computer security focused baccalaureate degree; and

Whereas, Fountainhead College of Technology is the only educational institution in Tennessee authorized to award four National Security Agency's (NSA) Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) certificates: 4011, 4012, 4013, 4014 Advanced to graduates of its Network Security and Forensics baccalaureate degree program; and

Whereas, understanding that protecting the nation's critical infrastructure is a multi-faceted endeavor, in 2004 the college made a strong commitment to achieve this goal by officially establishing an institution-wide center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Training (IACT) through which all information assurance educational initiatives immerge; and

Whereas, the mission of the IACT center is to develop and maintain a strong information assurance curriculum that adheres to national standards; and

Whereas, the mission of the IACT center is to also address the cybersecurity needs of the community by offering training and support for Fountainhead College of Technology students, staff, and faculty; local law enforcement; government agencies; and information technology professionals; and

Whereas, the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the Department of Homeland Security have officially declared October Cyber Security Awareness Month; and

Whereas, Fountainhead College of Technology and the Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Training (IACT) will continue to promote information assurance and cybersecurity training and awareness initiatives and research.


Now, therefore, I, Michael R. Ragsdale Knox County Executive, do hereby proclaim October 25, 2005 as

Knox County IACT Cybersecurity Awareness Day

In Knox County, and urge all citizens to join in this observance.

Let all within the reach of this proclamation heed its directive(s).
